My Mecca Maxima Review

Hey sweet peas!!

So back when I was in Sydney (too long ago!!) I found what is now one of my favourite shops: Mecca Maxima. I bought a super cool eyebrow pencil from Hourglass (in soft brunette), and omg I was so sad because I assumed they wouldn’t have Mecca back in New Zealand, or that it would only be in Auckland!

And then blessedly I found my beautiful Mecca at the ANZ centre in Christchurch!! πŸ˜€

So why do I love Mecca Maxima so much?

Okay so I am a lady that loves her make up! No arguing with that. And Mecca have so many good brands that you can’t buy anywhere else in New Zealand (i.e. Hourglass, Urban Decay etc.). A lot of their brands are ethically sourced, and use sustainable materials,Β  and whilst they’re not perfect they are still better than the other options!

Another thing I love is that their staff don’t work on commission of one particular brand, so you go in and ask for the product you want not the brand, and they help you find the best product out of many brands, which is much appreciated. Last time I went I got a (gorgeous!!) lipstick from Nars (Vera), a lip liner from Hourglass (Empress), and a foundation brush (I am weirdly addicted to brush shopping – am I alone?) from Urban Decay. All my products are amazing, and I loved having so much to chose from! πŸ™‚

Here are my products:

I hope you enjoyed this post, and I have linked Mecca’s website here for New Zealand, Australia, and I’m sure if you click on these it will lead you to the website for your country (I don’t actually know what countries they are in sorry!).

I’d love to hear if any of you have been to Mecca, and what products you love! I’d also love to hear what you think of my lipstick haha πŸ˜‰ <3

What Is Beauty?

Hey sweet peas!!! πŸ™‚

Today one of my absolute closest friends told us about her topic for her seminar at school, and I thought I’d poach it for a good post idea! πŸ˜‰

So here we are, the big question: What is beauty? If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you might remember the post I did in December called Be Yourself, and I touched a bit on this topic. Basically globally I think we need to rethink and redefine what beauty means to us!

A prime example for me is my really close friend who gave me this idea. Sometimes people think we’re sisters or something, and we often get mixed up by our German teacher, and though we are different I do feel like she is similar to sister for me. I see a lot of the qualities I like in myself in her, and she often inspires me to be the best I can be. Although sometimes we just slack off and look up flight paths online haha! πŸ˜€ When she’s just being herself, and just being herself and comfortable with that I think she is the epitome of beautiful.

The same goes for all my friends. Sometimes I don’t think they understand just how beautiful they are, but when they are just laughing and being themselves, when they are kind and caring, I don’t think they understand just how beautiful and amazing they are.

To me beauty is what we do, and how that reflects on ourselves. It is when you are happy, confident and comfortable with yourself, and others around you <3

As part of her seminar she got a couple of us to answer these questions and these are the answers I put:

  1. To you, what is beauty?

Life. Whether you put a religious aspect on it or not creation itself, and the natural being of the world, to me is beauty.

  1. Would you consider yourself to be beautiful?

Hell yeah!

  1. If there was one thing you could change about yourself to make you more beautiful, what would it be?

Nothing, I like myself just the way I am.

  1. What actually makes a person beautiful?

Their love and appreciation of themselves, others, and the world around them.

  1. Tell me your best joke, or a funny story.

My life. Any conversations with my close friends are often just me sending fox emojis which is pretty fun πŸ˜‰

  1. Tell me about something that happened today to make you smile.

Seeing the people I love being themselves, and making me feel like I am part of something awesome.

  1. Tell me about something or somebody beautiful you saw today.

My friends. When they stop worrying about how people see them, I see the true them, and I love seeing that because they are beautiful.

  1. If you could tell your younger self one thing about beauty, what would you tell them?

The 1D song isn’t far off: β€œyou don’t know your beautiful, that’s what makes you beautiful”. Stop worrying, be confident in yourself, and you will be beautiful.

I would love to hear all your answers to these questions in the comments, or if you decide to write a post about this please do tell me because i would love to read it!! I found it made me think a bit (although some of them I was just joking around a bit haha).

I hope you all enjoyed this post, and thought a little more about what actually is beautiful. If you love yourself, and those who are important they will see you as beautiful, and you will hopefully see your own beauty.

Until next time,

Lui xx

5 Female Social Media Stars That Inspire Me

Hey sweet peas!

So I felt like doing something a bit different for this post,Β  and I feel like all of us can relate to this post pretty well πŸ˜‰

I really wanted to do a post about a couple of YouTubers who have been really inspiring me recently (or for over a year now haha), but I remembered they have other social media appearances so I think I’ll just call them Social Media Stars (is that correct? You get it right though?) πŸ˜€ πŸ˜‰

  1. Anna Saccone. I only really recently started watching the Saccone Joly vlog channel (mostly because they’re baby is SO cute) and I honestly think they are such cool people! I really love how positive and honest she is, and I think she’s such an inspiration. I know she struggled with body image throughout her late teen years onwards, but ironically I think she is such a good role-model about healthy body weight, and I think she is just such a positive influence on everyone that watches her channel πŸ™‚ I honestly feel so inspired by her, and their vlogging channel is probably what I am watching the most of at the moment.Β anna saccone
  2. Tanya Burr. Again I think she is such an amazing role model for healthy body image, because she is so beautiful and so positive about being healthy. I love her relationships with everyone on her channels, and on other channels. I think she’s such an awesome, humble, and hardworking gal, who inspires me in so many ways!!tanya burr.jpg
  3. Hannah Witton. I genuinely love Hannah because she is HILARIOUS, and really honest and down to earth. I really like how she talks about what other people are afraid to talk about, and that she does it in a really safe and healthy way. I think its really important there are reliable and factual resources out there so we can have some of the questions we all have in life answered in a positive way.Β hannah witton
  4. Zoe Sugg. Obviously she’s going to be on this list πŸ˜‰ But I think its safe to say that she is one incredibly hardworking woman. I am honestly so happy for how much she has achieved, and I really love that she’s such a positive person. I think she defies stereotypes, and is such a powerful and influential person whilst still being totally down-to-earth. I think it is easy to be jealous of Zoe’s life (because lets be honest it is pretty cool) but I prefer to feel happy for her, because I know she deserves it all, and it just furthers my inspiration to succeed in my own life, and in my goals.Β zoe sugg
  5. Louise Pentland. I really love (again) how open and honest Louise is, and I was so inspired by how brave she was to completely renovate her channel and persona. I think it speaks volumes to how genuine she is, but also how much she cares about herself and her community, which is so inspiring. Plus I am LOVING her pregnancy videos because again she is super open and honest about everything, but also undeniably positive and happy.Β louise pentland

That’s just five Social Media Stars who inspire me, but trust me there are tons more πŸ˜‰ I love how much these five women are spreading such a healthy and positive message to people everywhere, not just other women. I think they are healthy role models of successful women, and inspire so many people (not just me haha!). We live in a world where social media can easily be used to shame people or to harm someone’s self-esteem, confidence, or mental health. But I think these five women (plus so many other people out there) are showing what an amazing effect social media can have on society. We need more people telling people (particularly young women and girls) that we should feel happy with ourselves, and to stop feelings of inadequacy or dissatisfaction with ourselves, because all these women have faced hurdles and got through them as amazing people.

I really hope you all enjoyed this post, and I would love to hear your thoughts!! Who are your top five inspirations? Do you also find any of these people inspiring?

If You Can’t Change It, Work With It

Hey sweet peas πŸ™‚

I hope you’re all having an amazing day πŸ™‚ <3

In my drama class a couple of months ago we were studying physical theatre and for the piece we were composing one of the themes I brought up was that if you can’t change something work with it.

Recently I updated my blog and went self-hosted which was pretty exciting, however one of the drawbacks was the transfer process. As it is my blog is doing far better, and I don’t really know how to move traffic over to my new one. It really upset me for a while, but now I know I just need to work with it, because I am not the first, and certainly won’t be the last person to experience this. One piece of comfort I take is how funny it is that I am worrying about all this stuff when a year ago I had no idea what it was!! πŸ˜€

I think we can all relate to having something that isn’t ideal in our lives, but hopefully it is something we can work with and try to make the best of. I can honestly say that now I am just grateful to even be here, and that the worst of my stress is pretty light haha! πŸ˜‰

I hope you are all having a great day, week and month! Thanks for supporting me on here πŸ™‚

I would love to hear your thoughts on this topic, and would especially love any advice you have! πŸ™‚ <3

Hey sweet peas! πŸ™‚

So, last Wednesday was my blog birthday (as I keep saying!!), and I’ve seen a few people do these sort of posts around their blog birthday so I thought I’d give it a go! πŸ™‚

– Don’t let bad stats get you down. As bloggers I’m sure you can all relate to those days where your stats just aren’t what they have been, and maybe a post didn’t do as well as predicted. It can be a bit shocking, but you just have to remember that stats fluctuate so much, and you’ll always have down days, but also those days when your stats are on fire! πŸ˜‰ <3 - Make the most of the blogging community. Make friends, and chat with people is honestly the best advice I can give. I'm generally up for a chat with another blogger, and I have made a fair few friends on here! πŸ™‚ - Write what you want to write. Don't write for good stats, or follows, or just because you're too scared to post it. Don't let fear of people not liking it get in the way. Obviously don't post anything that you wont be proud of, but trust me I really mulled over whether or not to post my Feminism post forever but when I posted I was so proud of it, and we had some really great discussions on there πŸ™‚ I can probably name a million more but these are the most important three to me πŸ™‚ I hope you enjoyed reading this, and I would love to hear your thoughts, and what you've learnt whilst having your blog πŸ™‚ Lui xx
