Christmas Traditions Collab with Marioness!!| Day 10

Christmas Traditions Collab with Marioness!!| Day 10

Hello sweet peas!!

Today I am going to be doing a collab with my good friend Marioness! She has been such an amazing supporter, inspiration, and friend, so if you haven’t already do check out her blog!! πŸ˜€

So today we are going to be talking about Christmas traditions we each have in our own countries, as she lives in Catalonia and I live in New Zealand – kind of a considerable distance geographically!! πŸ˜‰

So we’ve broken it down into a few different aspects (do note that I refer to people in New Zealand as “Kiwis” as this is the colloquial name we attribute to ourselves):

Food:

Traditional food in New Zealand is a more summery version of English food, with a few bits and bobs we call our own πŸ˜‰ Food example we always have a pavlova! It’s a must for every kiwi household πŸ˜‰ And in our family we always have a berry trifle with fresh berries! Berries and ice cream pretty much always makes an appearance around this time of year too! Instead of having a Turkey – although sometimes people do – we generally have a roast ham and new potatoes since they are in season in summer!

Christmas eve:

For us we always open a small present on Christmas eve, although this isn’t a kiwi thing more of a my family thing πŸ˜‰ We also attend Christmas eve mass most years (although we haven’t in the last couple – oops!) which I always really enjoy because there is a nativity play, and lots of singing and joy! πŸ˜€

Christmas Day:

We always spend this day with our extended family, which changes every year depending on who is in New Zealand! πŸ˜€ Usually we spend it with my mum’s family, although we do spend it occasionally with my dad’s side πŸ™‚ This day usually involves a lot of food, laughter, and fun, and there is always something involving water e.g. a sprinkler, or water guns! πŸ˜‰

Her Questions!!

1. Which is your favourite tradition?

I really like how we always have a wee nativity set in our household, this year we have at least three in the main Christmas room!! πŸ˜€ And they’re from all around the world, such as the newest one which is from Peru! πŸ™‚

2. And which one you don’t like?

I don’t think I have one I don’t like haha! Although I guess over the years it has become less and less about presents, so I guess that’s less important to me πŸ™‚

3. Do you eat something special on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

Ham,Β summer vegetables (such as new potatoes and baby carrots, or peas), and always a pavlova and brandy snaps!! πŸ˜€

4. Do you prepare the Nativity in New Zealand?

In my family we always have nativity things around the place so yes my family do, but its not a nationwide thing πŸ™‚

5. Have you ever heard of some Catalan traditions?

Never! Which is why it was so cool to learn about them!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ I love learning about the different ways Christmas is celebrated around the world! πŸ™‚

I had so much fun doing this collab, and learnt a lot about Catalan traditions which is so cool! πŸ˜€

I hope you’re all having a great day, and remember to go check out Marioness’ post of this! πŸ™‚
