Be Yourself

Be Yourself

Hello sweet peas

So often I hear girls around me (because I go to a girls only school) judging themselves so casually, and worrying so much about having like one pimple! And I’m just standing there like ‘I actually like how I look guys, but ok keep slandering yourself” not.

Honestly, the minute someone says “oh you look good, butΒ I don’t like that photo becauseΒ I look fat” and its just like, where’s the nearest bridge? Jokes! But seriously, why do teenagers find it necessary to lower themselves?

It worries me so much that girls find that they need to put themselves down. I hate hearing people say “oh he won’t like me becauseΒ I’m fat/pimply/not good enough for him”.

Can I just say that any guy or girl worth it is not going to give a stuff how you look. In fact (and I am taking this from girls and guys I have talked to) confidence is what most people are attracted to. And if you’re worrying about your pimples (when you have one!) or that you’re fat (when in fact you’re actually a healthy weight, and look good!) this really is going to lower this confidence.

confidence isn’t always being able to get up in front of a whole lot of people and sing or act, but instead true confidence is having a sense of self-worth and self-love.

So how do you do this?

  • When you look in the mirror instead of looking at what you don’t like, look at what you do like. Look at it and say “I am beautiful because no one else has quite the same (insert feature) as me, and I am myself” or some other positive thing that will sound ridiculous but actually works. For me I love my brown eyes so I always look at them and think “aren’t I lucky to have such brown eyes?” (I’m feeling super good right now πŸ˜‰ )
  • Don’t get into negative conversations about how you look. If someone starts going on about how they hate how they look change the conversation or leave. No good friend will subject you to this if you don’t want to hear it. Sometimes even the best people have these conversations, but tell them you don’t want this conversation, and they should respect that and maybe realise that they actually don’t hate how they look.
  • Take and give compliments. one of the most amazing ways to make yourself feel good is to give someone else a compliment. Sometimes when I tell someone they look beautiful they tell me its weird, but why is it weird? If someone tells me I am beautiful I am going to feel so good. you should tell your friends they look good, or they are good at something <3 Plus it prepares you for when someone you have a crush on gives you a compliment. <3
  • Don’t compare yourself to others. Trying to look like someone else is an unrealistic objective, and is only going to end in tears. Be yourself. No one has been blessed to look like you, and remember that. No one else gets to be you, so make it damn worth it πŸ˜‰

Of course I will finish with my favourite quote πŸ˜‰ <3

Be yourself, because those that care don’t matter, and those that matter don’t care

and of course:

Be yourself. Everyone else is taken <3

I hope you enjoyed but also took something away from todays post πŸ™‚ I think its so important that you know this, and that you are happy being yourself πŸ™‚ Most people don’t work out not to give a stuff about what other people think until they are quite a bit older, so here’s a head start!

I would love to hear your thoughts down below πŸ™‚

I hope you all have a good day, and remember your beauty, your worth in this world πŸ™‚

I love this post, Lui! Girls need to learn to embrace themselves, and not care what others think, even though its hard to block out those negative thoughts. I’ve been there before, and like you said, confidence is really key for guys or girls. I think a guy should like a girl for who she is, not because of her physical appearance (vice versa, too). What you have said really makes a great point. I hope that girls and women will one day learn to not put themselves down, because we are all human beings who are like stars that shine beautifully when we are being ourselves. Wonderful post!

Amazing 😘 But no matter how much times some one post about this subject, it’s going to keep coming back, and we’ll never be able to stop it. But, we must take it step by step, and this will impower girls everywhere. So thank you πŸ’œ

  8. December 28, 2016 / 11:23 am

This is amazing and so well put. Although we’re on opposite ends of the world, and I don’t go to an all girls school, I still constantly hear girls criticizing and putting themselves down. Thank you Lui everyone needs to read this ❀️

  9. December 28, 2016 / 11:40 am

Lui, this is a post that ALL girls should read. Self love, self esteem, and self confidence is something that lacks in everyone’s day to day life, more so for some than others but it’s entirely too tragic and a huge concern that is overlooked upon. Your point on not comparing yourself to others is a HUGE piece of advice; if only we could drill that thought into every girls (and boys) brains. God made us all differently and we need to be blessed and thankful for that. I also love the “give and take complements.” I personally try to compliment at least one stranger a day because I know that one little complement can go such a long way. It’s important to spread the love. What a great topic to cover!

Ahhhh so inspirational😊😊😊 when one person starts complaining about how they look bad, other people seem to take it as an invitation to complain about their looks too. And then the whole conversation becomes a rant. By the way, how is going to an all girls school like? πŸ’•πŸ’•
