Which One’s the Goblin?

Which One’s the Goblin?

Hey all!

Recently whilst scrolling through my Facebook feed (as one does on a coffee break) I saw a post asking which member of my “group” was the “Goblin” of the group, and to tag accordingly (you know the type of post that lists a set of criteria and you try to match yourself best to it?). I tagged my wee friend group for a laugh, and before long someone had claimed the spot. But it got me thinking: who’s the what of what group?

We love titles, placements, assigning everyone a position, and I guess it gives us a set of instructions per say to abide by. The Queen Bee, The Clown, The One That Gets the Males, etc. We even tried to figure out which one of us is each member of Queen (FYI I’m the John Deacon of any group).

But sometimes, and most times, these titles don’t really convey the true spirit of each person or the group as a whole. I genuinely don’t know which of my friends is the Queen Bee. My “group” (I have a few really, but the ones from when I was at school I guess) are so incredibly diverse, and none of us is doing the same thing. One of us is studying at university, one is doing Camp America. Another is jetting of to Vietnam, another to the UK. One is getting a photography job, and another is studying at the local Polytech. Then there’s me, the lil’ farmer’s apprentice/ intrepid traveller/ hopefully future journalist. I LOVE and LIVE for the diversity of this group, and all they bring to the table (metaphorically and otherwise). But are any of us the “Queen Bee”? Sometimes I see myself as many roles: the mother, the facilitator, the goofy hyper one, the short one, I was the traveller, the chauffer, the one who brings their brother to EVERYTHING. Imagine if I tried to list every single thing each of the others are!

I guess what I’m getting at is, titles only go so far, and are ultimately great for a laugh but completely overlook the true potential and worth of the individual, through their growth and their identity.

So, maybe you’re the Queen Bee. The Mother. The Clown.

Maybe you’re the Goblin.

But you are so much more than that, and Facebook laughs aside, titles are only that: they don’t convey your full story.

I’d love to hear your thoughts below!! What are your thoughts on this? Do you have this in your friend group?

Until next time,

Lui xx

Hello Lui! I don’t know whether you remember me (from about 2 years ago oops) but I decided to come back to blogging and revisit some of my favourite blogs after a VERRRRYY LONG break! I really enjoyed this post, it was truly thought provoking and I loved how it stemmed from such a simple observation. The unusual title definitely drew me in! In my friendship group, I would say we do fall into these pre-assigned roles, but in many ways me and my friends are very similar, so I guess we would have similar titles….
I myself have just posted for the first time in 3 years discussing my Youtube channel, and I would really appreciate if you had any free time to give it a read and post some feedback- if not, no problem! I can’t wait to start reading your posts again, particularly what you are getting up to in your gap year…..
Hope to speak to you soon,
    Rosie x
